What a thoroughly enjoyable story..a mystery to solve, a really awful bad guy to catch, a jerk co-worker, and a beautiful woman for our hero to maybe love. This story has it all, and it kept me up past bedtime to read. What a treat.
I've read and enjoyed Ridley Pearson's books for years. Although this one was a decent story, far too much time was spent on minutia. This was by no stretch of the imagination a realistic or fast-paced mystery.
This author paints vivid mental pictures (which is far better than watching TV). Characters become personal as do their motives. It is an engaging read that offers some challenge to keep everything straight, but that's also what makes it a fun read.
The idea. That a forensic specialist can transition to a detective is an interesting premise. Add to that a family grieving while a sadistic killer plans and executes multiple people makes this book one that demands to be read.
I'm giving Proable Cause a 4 because I was a huge fan of the Lou Bolt series (the Mr. Pearson abandoned for some reason). This book was well written and had good character development. The story line certainly kept my interest. I'm hoping this series continues since it for sure left it open for a follow on book.
For animal lovers, this is not the book for them. There is unnecessary descriptions of animal abuse and death. I felt that could have easily been left out and still get the message across. If this is want to expect from this author, I will no longer purchase any books by Pearson.
This story opened with a scene so horrible and devastating I was actually shocked. And it was just one big suspenseful and hyperventilating read after that. While I couldn't put the book down, I was also afraid to keep reading. Most of the time I couldn't breathe. As always, Ridley Pearson is a master story teller. You can see the characters in your mind's eye and feel yourself getting dragged in. I think you have to read this book, but beware the violence and pain.
